Cuando una pareja “Couple” decide casarse “to get married” es motivo de alegría y de celebración. Hoy te presentamos todo el vocabulario relacionado con las bodas en inglés.

Married – Casado/s

  • When people fall in love and stay in love, they eventually decide that it’s a good idea to get married.
  • Cuando la gente se enamora, en algún momento deciden que es una buena idea casarse

Bride – Novia

  • The woman who gets married is called a “bride.” The bride often wears a wedding gown or a wedding dress.
  • A la mujer que se casa se la llama novia. La novia a menudo lleva un vestido de novia.

Groom – Novio

  • The man who gets married is called a “groom.” The groom often wears a tuxedo or a suit.
  • Al hombre que se casa se la llama novio. El novio a menudo lleva un esmoquin o traje.

Maid of honor – Dama de honor

  • The maid of honor is a woman selected by the bride to assist in the wedding ceremony and help the bride.
  • La dama se honor es una mujer escogida por la novia que ayuda a la novia durante la boda.

Best man – Padrino

  • The best man is a man selected by the groom to assist in the wedding ceremony and help the groom.
  • El padrino es un hombre escogido por el novio que ayuda al novio durante la ceremonia.

Bridesmaids – Damas de honor

  • The women who stand up in support of the bride are the bridesmaids.
  • Las mujeres que van de parte de la novia son sus damas de honor.
  • Bridesmaids wear matching dresses, but their dresses look different from the wedding gown worn by the bride. The bride wears white while the bridesmaids wear something other than white.
  • Las damas de honor llevan vestidos a juego, pero sus vestidos son diferentes del de la novia. La novia lleva blanco mientras que el resto lleva cualquier otro color.

Groomsmen – Padrinos de boda

  • The men who stand up at a wedding in support of the groom are the groomsmen.
  • Los hombres que van de parte del novio son sus padrinos de boda.

Tuxedo – Esmoquin

  • The groom, the best man, and the other men standing up at the wedding (the groomsmen) wear a tuxedo.
  • El novio, el padrino y el resto de los hombres en la boda llevan un esmoquin.

Church – Iglesia

  • Many people get married inside a church. It’s also very common to get married outside of a church, in a public building or outside in the fresh air. 
  • Mucha gente se casa en una iglesia. También es muy común casarse fuera de la iglesia en un edificio público o al aire libre.

To have cold feet – Entrar en pánico, dudar (expresión)

  • Before the wedding ceremony begins, sometimes the bride or the groom begins to have second thoughts about getting married. In this case, we say the person has “cold feet.”
  • Antes de la boda, a veces la novia o el novio empieza a tener dudas sobre si debería casarse. En estos casos se dice que la persona tiene “cold feet” – literalmente los pies fríos, en referencia a la paralización que les entra.

Newlywed(s) – recién casados

  • People who have just married are referred to as “newlyweds.”
  • La gente que se acaba de casar son “recién casados”

Wedding cake- Tarta de boda

  • A wedding cake is served during the reception.
  • La tarta de boda se sirve durante el banquete.

Wedding bouquet – Ramo de novia

  • It’s a tradition for the the bride to throw a bouquet over her shoulder towards unmarried women. Whoever catches the bouquet it’s said to be the next woman to get married.
  • Es tradición que la novia tire el ramo por encima del hombro, sin mirar, hacia las mujeres solteras. Se dice que aquella que atrapa el ramo será la próxima en casarse.

Just married- Recién casados

  • When the groom and the bride leave the wedding ceremony, they drive off together as a “just married” couple.
  • Cuando el novio y la novia dejan la ceremonia de la boda, se van juntos como pareja “recién casada”.

Vocabulario relacionado con la Boda
